Protec VCI Powder:
Used for Metal Objects
With Inaccessible Areas |
|

 |
PROTEC VCI Powder is a vapor corrosion inhibitor for corrosion protection of metals with inaccessible and recessed areas, interior cavities and voids. It provides an extremely efficient means to protect metals in an enclosed space.
How It Works:
After application, PROTEC VCI Powder vaporizes and then adsorbs on all metal surfaces, reaching every part of the metal surface, including recessed areas of complex shapes and configurations, as well as deep into all interior cavities. The inhibitor works at the molecular level by blocking the electrochemical reaction necessary for corrosion. Continuous vapor action allows VCI powder to provide high levels of corrosion resistance for up to 24 months in enclosed corrosive environments. Even if the VCI layer is disturbed by moisture or by opening the enclosed space, the layer is replenished by continuous vapor protection.
Application Methods:
PROTEC VCI Powder is easily applied using either a blow-in, dry method, or a wet, water injection method. The easy, blow-in application does not require surface preparation, will not interfere with mechanical operation of equipment or machinery, and need not be removed when equipment is sold or activated. The water soluble powder can also be dissolved for circulation through the interior of boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, piping, tanks and other equipment.
Recommended Applications:
Components
Conduits
Heat Exchangers
Parts
Pumps
Piping
Safe & Convenient:
Using PROTEC VCI Powder is a simple method for protection of inaccessible voids, internal areas of equipment, and other surfaces where paint, coatings and cathodic protection may not always be suitable.
It protects up to 1 cubic foot with 0.3 ounces (300 grams/m3) of powder. It prevents further corrosion of pre-coated and painted surfaces. VCI powder is effective and suitable for use from -40° F to 200° F. VCIs contains no nitrite, chromate or phosphate inhibitors.
PROTEC VCI powder is non-hazardous and environmentally safe.
PROTEC VCI Powder is available in 5-pound boxes and 50-pound drums. Store between 0°F (-17°C) and 120° F (49° C). Expect a shelf life two years (min.).
Application Instructions:
Surface Preparation: Remove dirt, oil, grease and loose rust according to job specifications.
Temperature: Keep material at 32° F(0° C) or above. Air and surface temperature from 0° F (-18°C) to 120° F (49°C).
Application: Apply powder by dusting, fogging, or sprinkling. After application, simply cover, close or seal the interior cavity or void. To fog, use a low pressure air and siphon or pressure feed sandblast equipment.
Amount: For average environmental conditions, use 0.3 oz per cubic foot (300 gm/cubic meter). Dosage may be increased for more severe conditions.
Wet solution protection: When desired, for hydrotesting or protection of piping, pumps, tanks and other equipment, the powder may be dissolved in potable (drinking quality) water at 2%-5% by weight. Liquid may either be left in the equipment or drained. For large equipment and tanks, the solution may be sprayed on the surface. This method requires a confining surface to maintain the concentration of VCI for long term protection.
Removal: When required, PROTEC VCI Powder may be removed by using low pressure air to blow the powder off, by vacuum or by water wash. NOTE: VCI powder is environmentally safe and biodegradable. Generally the residue can be flushed to the sewer, but local, state and federal regulations should be followed.
